Ministry to the Sick

About Us

The Ministry to the Sick (MTTS) at St. Anne’s Church began in 2007 and continues to offer pastoral care to our brothers and sisters who are unable to come for Mass as they are homebound. These Catholics range from the young to those in their advanced years, and their inability to attend Mass is primarily because they are ill or are physically unable to leave their homes. Some are also at the end stage of their lives. As a result, they are unable to receive the Sacraments that able-bodied Catholics are blessed with.

We assure these individuals — whom we call Communicants — that the Church has not forgotten them. Since 2022, our ministry has also started organising Mass for the Sick at least once a year, so our less mobile brethren may be assisted in coming to church to attend Mass and receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.

Roles & Responsibilities

As St. Anne’s is the closest parish to Sengkang General Hospital, we also try to extend this pastoral care to Catholics who have been admitted there and request for the Sacraments. The Ministry to the Sick is part of the Church’s Corporeal and Spiritual Works of Mercy that are found in the teachings of Christ, who cared for the sick and abandoned, especially the lepers.

In our work with the sick, our ministry members walk with them on their faith journey as Christians — making sure they are spiritually nourished with the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament (Holy Eucharist). We also ensure they have access to other Sacraments, especially Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation.

Tasks & Practices

Despite their illness, our sick brothers and sisters still have much to offer to those who take the time to visit, listen to and comfort them. Thus, we try to reach out to all those who need us.

If you are aware of any ill parishioners who are homebound and unable to attend Mass in Church, please contact the Parish Secretariat @ 63865072 to request assistance for them.

Our Mission

The Ministry to the Sick (MTTS) exists to extend the compassionate presence of the Church to homebound and infirm parishioners who are unable to attend Mass. Through regular pastoral visits, the bringing of Holy Communion, and prayerful accompaniment, the ministry affirms that these brothers and sisters remain an integral part of the parish community. MTTS seeks to ensure that Communicants continue to receive the grace of the Sacraments and the comfort of Christ’s love, especially in times of illness, frailty, and at life’s later stages. In organising Mass for the Sick, the ministry also strives to make the Church’s sacramental life accessible to those with limited mobility, assuring them that they are remembered, valued, and never forgotten.

"Yahweh will be his comfort on his bed of sickness; most carefully you make his bed when he is sick."

Psalm 41:3
