Catechetical Ministry

About Us

The Catechetical Ministry provides ongoing faith formation for baptised children and teens — preparing them for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, and Confirmation. Members of our ministry also conduct the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC) and Youth (RCIY) for individuals aged between nine and 25 years.

RCIC and RCIY are suited for the following children/youth who are:–

    • Baptised with no formal catechesis or;
    • From overseas or;
    • Unbaptised and wish to be baptised.

Roles & Responsibilities

Our vocation from God is not only to be a teacher of faith, but to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.

    Tasks & Practices

    The six fundamental tasks of a Catechist (GDC #85) are to:–

    • Promote the knowledge of faith;
    • Give moral formation;
    • Provide liturgical education;
    • Teach how to pray;
    • Educate for community life;
    • Initiate into the missionary dimension.

    A Catechist’s primary roles are to prepare and share with their assigned classes (sometimes combined) weekly during the school terms.

    No skills are required! All we ask for are willing and open hearts to allow God to use in this Ministry, to share His love story. However, one must be a practising Catholic who has been baptised and confirmed to apply.

    Interested parties may email sac.catechist@catholic.org.sg or speak with our Spiritual Director (Fr. Simon Ho) to register your interest, and we will be in touch.

    Our Mission

    As Catechists, we wish to enhance the faith formation of our parishioners. The Word of God is proclaimed and the traditions of the Catholic Church are taught, so that everyone’s faith becomes living, conscious and active. Our Ministry consists of the following to serve St. Anne’s Church more effectively:–

    • Sharing our faith with K1 to L9 children/youth in weekly sessions
    • Conduct Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)
    • Conduct Rite of Christian Initiation for Youth (RCIY)
    • Conduct preparatory sessions for our Special Needs children
    • Facilitate Children’s Liturgy (during the Sunday 11:30AM Mass)

    "Instruct a child in the way he should go, and when he grows old he will not leave it."

    Proverbs 22:6
