About Us
The Ministry of Altar Servers at St. Anne’s aims to empower its members to serve the Lord actively and reverently at the altar, guiding the congregation (including themselves) to worship better during the liturgy.
“The Altar Server occupies a privileged place in the liturgical celebration. He who serves at Mass presents himself to a community. He experiences first-hand that Jesus Christ is present and active in every liturgical act.” – St. Pope John Paul II
Roles & Responsibilities
Our vocation calls us to serve Mass throughout the week. Furthermore, St. Anne’s Ministry of Altar Servers may serve other services when called upon including, but not limited to:–
- Weddings,
- Funerals,
- Holy Hour worship services and,
- Other liturgical events
Being Altar Servers trains us to be familiar with various Mass flows and to better understand the Church’s traditions and practices.
Tasks & Practices
As a group, we recite prayers before and after every Mass. This act of prayer allows all Altar Servers to focus on serving God. Frequent training sessions are also conducted to enhance familiarity with the procedures — especially for special Masses — fostering a greater sense of responsibility and discipline. Regular gatherings are also organised for bonding purposes, where our boys can grow spiritually together. These gatherings serve as a means to remind everyone of their duties/rosters and other major announcements/events. To balance work and play, MAS also hosts games, activities and retreats throughout the year to strengthen brotherhood within our ministry.
Join Us
Generally, we accept boys from nine years of age. There is no hard limit on the age range; our older servers continue to serve through National Service, and some of them take on advisory roles in their adulthood.
To apply, fill out this Google Form, and we will be in touch! All enquiries may be directed to sac.altarservers@catholic.org.sg.
As Altar Servers, we are humbled and privileged to be in proximity to the altar during consecration, when the bread and wine become the body and blood of Christ. This allows us to experience a greater joy during the liturgical celebration. We hope our boys can become exemplary men living out Catholic values by being part of the Altar Servers.
"For the Son of Man himself did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Mark 10:45
