Ministry of Consolation

About Us

The Ministry of Consolation (MOC) is a pastoral outreach at St. Anne’s Church dedicated to supporting parishioners and families during times of loss and mourning. Rooted in Christ’s promise of comfort and presence, the ministry walks with the bereaved, offering prayer, support, and liturgical accompaniment. Through coordinated prayer services, assistance with funeral rites, and ongoing remembrance, MOC seeks to bring the consolation of Christ to those who grieve and to uphold the dignity of life and death within the parish community.

Roles & Responsibilities

Members of MOC serve the parish by:

  • Praying for the dead and the grieving, offering presence and intercession for souls and families.
  • Providing one or more nights of night prayers for bereaved families upon request, creating a sacred space for remembrance and support.
  • Coordinating and assisting with Funeral Masses/Services, ensuring that rites are conducted with dignity and in accordance with Church practice.
  • Conducting the Rite of Committal at the crematorium, offering pastoral accompaniment at the final farewell.
  • Leading monthly Columbarium prayers at the parish columbarium on the last Sunday of each month, fostering communal remembrance and prayer for the faithful departed.

Tasks & Practices

The Ministry of Consolation provides one night of prayers for bereaved families. Upon request, we may offer more than one night of prayers when circumstances permit. We coordinate and assist families with Funeral Masses and Services. In addition, we conduct the Rite of Committal at the Crematorium.

On the last Sunday of the month, the Ministry of Consolation hosts monthly prayers after the 11:30AM Mass. Our ministry also supports the clergy with the bessing of niches in the Columbarium are also done on All Souls’ Day.

Join Us

We invite those who feel called to offer compassionate support and prayerful presence to those in sorrow to join the Ministry of Consolation. Whether you are gifted in prayer, attentive listening, or supporting families through pastoral care, your participation helps bring Christ’s comfort to those who mourn.

Our members conduct bi-monthly meetings regularly with our Spiritual Director, and organise annual ministry retreats. Being part of our ministry, you can also expect to participate in other parish-wide events where necessary.

Our Mission

“We all need to give consolation as well as to receive it.” – Henri Nouwen

Our mission is to accompany the grieving with compassionate presence, prayer, and pastoral care, helping bereaved families experience the comfort and hope of Christ in their loss.

Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” –  John 14:18

Similarly, we pray for the dead and aim to comfort those in mourning. The Ministry of Consolation supports those who need it in their grief. To us, offering consolation is one of the most important ways to care.

We strive to offer respectful prayer services, assist with funeral and committal rites, and provide opportunities for communal remembrance, so that through prayer and support, parishioners may encounter Christ’s promise.

"Yahweh is my light and my salvation, whom need I fear? Yahweh is the fortress of my life, of whom should I be afraid?"

Psalm 27:1
