Currently, Grandma’s Kitchen operates with approximately 16 individual members and 14 couples. Most, if not all, have been with our ministry for years. Our ministry members are rostered into three groups — A, B and C. Except for Group C, which serves on the third week of the month, Groups A and B serve on alternate Sundays.
During long school holidays or when there are no catechism classes, the canteen operates on a much smaller scale. As such, only three to four members will be rostered for duties during this period. The canteen will also be closed on one or two Sundays during the school break and on Public Holidays.

We have a members’ contribution fund, which amounts to $5 per month, whether you’re single or serving in our ministry with your other half. Collection is done on a bi-yearly basis, but we also offer the option for those who choose to contribute monthly. These funds are used for parish events, such as sponsoring a stall during St. Anne’s Feast Day, Easter Fiesta, and the welfare of our ministry members.
Our treasurer, Cecilia Lee, has been with Grandma’s Kitchen for many years. She keeps account of these funds, and our members are kept informed through a monthly newsletter. Besides serving in the ministry, we also host outreach programmes.

As for bonding activities, we have had bowling sessions, New Year dinners and outings to nearby islands. There is a lot of interaction, not just among members, but also with the parishioners. Focusing on God’s love and having great cooperation/teamwork among our members makes it wonderful to serve in Grandma’s Kitchen. Our time is always filled with a lot of laughter and fun as we serve as one big family.
Meditating on how our Lord Jesus washed the feet of his disciples reminds us that, like Him, we are here to serve and not to be served. We are to serve like Him with great love and humility.

Here at Grandma’s Kitchen, our motto is as follows: “One for all, All for One. One Lord for all, all for One Lord.”
We want to serve the parish community with love and an open heart, and enhance brotherly and sisterly love among fellow Catholics, with the common goal of focusing on God’s Love.
St. Paul says, “You form a building.” The foundation is the apostles and prophets, and the cornerstone is Jesus. Which part of the building are you? Perhaps, you’re so deeply involved in a ministry that you’re a pillar. Maybe you’re part of that, covering what others do. You could be a window, through which others look into and realise that they want to join the Church; or a window sill upon which people lean as they look for God. Maybe you’re a fireplace, warming others to the idea of having faith in God or one of the bricks in the fireplace that keeps danger from spreading. The only way to experience the support and love of community is to get involved in the part of the building where you best fit in.
Rooted in a spirit of service and generosity, Grandma’s Kitchen reflects the Church’s call to care for one another and to make every person feel at home within the parish family.
